LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.'s women's soccer team found itself on the right side of a 1-0 decision on Sunday.
Two days after dropping a heartbreaking 1-0 overtime decision to Cal Poly Pomona, the Golden Eagles got a first-half goal from
Dana Menard and held off Cal State San Bernardino, 1-0, Sunday at Jesse Owens Track.
The Golden Eagles (5-2, 2-2 CCAA) have had four of their seven games this season decided by 1-0 scores and are 2-2 in those contests.
Cal State San Bernardino (3-3-2, 0-3-1) got a strong performance from goalkeeper Leslie Rhodes, who made four saves. Cal State L.A., also, got an outstanding effort from its goalie,
Reyna Coca, who also made four saves to post the shutout.
Cal State L.A. had a 16-8 advantage in shots.

Erika Prado had the first good scoring chance of the game when her hard shot was deflected just over the crossbar by Rhodes. Prado had another attempt sail over the crossbar in the opening minutes of the game and the Golden Eagles had an apparent goal by
Khadijah Greenwood waved off because of an offsides call.
Cal State San Bernardino's Katie Liby had a strong scoring chance after a series of Coyote passes, but Coca made a nice save to keep the game scoreless.
Cal State San Bernardino just missed a goal 11 minutes later when a free kick by Lauren Zellmer was just deflected over the crossbar by Coca.
Menard, a freshman from Temecula Valley High School, broke the scoreless tie in the 43
rd minute with an assist from
Christine Buenrostro. Menard dribbled in and took a hard shot that bounced off the crossbar and found the left corner of the net.
The Coyotes just missed tying the game in the 62nd minute when a hard shot by Krista Feer hit the crossbar and dropped almost straight down, but just stayed outside of the goal. The Golden Eagles were then able to clear the ball and maintain their lead.
Cal State L.A. will return to action on Friday with a road match at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
